How to SAVE Money Cleaning Your Floors
There are more than enough floor cleaning products out there these days, and many of them cost a pretty penny. We'll show you how to save money cleaning your floors, and share some secrets so you never have to purchase expensive cleaning products again. When you think of the best, easiest way to clean your floors, you may think of the ever popular swiffer wet mop, the nice long handle with the flat end that the disposable cleaning cloths attach to. The swiffer wet mop, although a great invention, has some drawbacks, especially to the frugal home keeper. The cloths that you purchase for the reusable mop can be quite expensive, and you have to keep purchasing them, or so they want you to think. The cloths are also soaked in a cleaning solution that has chemical ingredients that get the job done, but can be toxic to you and your family. Also, the cloths contribute to a lot of household waste. When you are disposing a cloth every time you mop the floor, you could be throwing away as many as 5 to 7 cloths a week depending on how often you mop your floors. Then, there is the plastic container they come in, which can be recycled, but often ends up in the landfill.
Well, we have a secret we would like to share with you that will revolutionize the way you use your swiffer wet mop handle, you can make your own re-usable floor cleaning cloths, and yes, they will fit right onto the end of your swiffer wet mop. Why not reuse an old fleece blanket you don't use any more? Or, you can purchase one at a thrift store for super cheap, or even a dollar store. Then, all you need to do is cut your cloth into pieces that are 8.5 inches by 10 inches. Seriously, that is it, just cut them to that size and you have a new set of re-usable floor mop cloths.
Of course, if you want to get fancy, you can stitch up the edges with a hem, but fleece usually doesn't fray, so it would be purely for aesthetic purposes. Another great idea for making your own re-usable floor mop cloths is to use an old pair of fleecy socks, or buy some new, affordable pairs so you know you're starting out fresh and clean. Those socks fit perfectly over the head of the flat swiffer wet mop and they won't slide off halfway through your floor mopping either. When you are finished with either of the cloths, whether it's the fleece ones you make out of fabric, or a sock, simply throw them into the washing machine with all of your other cleaning cloths and rags, and they will come out as good as new.
Think of all the money you can save, and all of the trash you will be eliminating from our landfills. These are very eco conscious ways to improve your cleaning routine. You can also use a natural floor cleaner recipe to make it even more eco friendly. Just add some vinegar into some warm water and put the mixture into a spray bottle, and spray the floor as you mop. You can also use a bucket of warm water with vinegar in it and simply rinse out the cloth in the natural floor cleaner recipe every 8 square feet or so. Make sure you change the water if it gets too dark and dirty. Enjoy this great do it yourself home cleaning tip and see how fabulous you feel about cleaning your floors the eco friendly way.***
